The goal of the Green Labs Program at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC is to create a culture of sustainability in the research institute community by bringing awareness to the environmental impacts of a lab, creating and sharing best practices to support green lab projects and goals, and to explore ways to reduce the environmental impact of our research.
Hi, I'm Roslyn with a sassy lab, and I want to show you some of the ways that the green team has been reducing waste here at purlin Biomedical Research Institute. One of the things we do is we recycle our gloves. So that takes away a lot of the waste that we have here in our lab. Some other easy options to reduce waste in your lab are taking your pipette tip boxes and removing them and sorting them per color, which makes it easy for us to recycle. Also, your lab members can collect any plastic or cardboard and sorted into some general recycling in which you can then sort into our amazing programs such as tracks morning recycling. Another great way to reduce waste and your lab is to get rid of those pesky star from containers. So the next time you get a delivery of media or whatever it is, take off your stickers, bring them down to the loading dock and stack them up and we'll go ahead and take them to recycling. So why should you reduce waste in your lab? As a research facility, we produce a lot of waste. And instead of that going into the trash, you can recycle it so it doesn't end up in the landfill. We've shown you some easy ways that you can reduce waste in your lab. So you should join the great theme.
