This year's ceremony began in War Memorial Chapel. Capt. Jamie McGrath, director of the Major General W. Thomas Rice Center for Leader Development and a 1990 graduate of the Corps of Cadets, spoke of honoring our armed service members. The program ended with the laying of the ceremonial wreath on War Memorial court by President Tim Sands and Major General Randal Fullhart.

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light what so proudly we hail'd At the twilight's last gleaming. First observed as Armistice Day on November 11th, 1919. President Wilson declared "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy for peace and justice in the counsels of the nations." We're so grateful for this opportunity every year to be able to acknowledge and thank veterans from across the country, and certainly here at Virginia Tech, that have served their country in one way or the other. Happy Veterans Day to you all.
