The Media Recording Studio, located on the second floor of Newman Library, is a space for patrons to create various types of media with the help of technology such as 4k video cameras, a sound booth, music editing workstations, and more.
The Media Recording Studio is extraordinarily popular. There's a lot of bookings every year. It's been heavily utilized. It has a recording booth, a green screen, and some 4k video recording. It has mixing equipment. It's basically for anybody who's interested in making audio or video related projects. If you're a musician, if you're a podcaster, or if you're just someone who's curious how the equipment here works, it's free for everyone and we have a lot of easy to access programs. It's just amazing how many people are taking on media projects for various reasons. Some of them are doing it for class, some of them are doing it for personal reasons. But how few departments that will ask you to do a media project provide you any resources to do the media project. And so that's why I think it's really important to have a space like this because there's so many people who need it and don't have access to it otherwise. I think the coolest part about having this space in the library is that you can genuinely see the art and creativity behind so many students here, especially because no one really comes in here to do the same thing. Everyone's here to do something different. I've had Harry Potter skits playing on the video camera. I've had rappers play with the audio. It's really just an open space for everyone to take their experiences or their interests and merge it here with our equipment and make something really cool.
