An historical overview of Virginia Tech Dining Services from 1872 to 1894.
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University opened on October 1st, 870 to as a land-grant institution. The Founding named for the university was Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College. Over the years, the University has operated under a variety of names. While some older alumni and other friends of the university continue to call it BPI as most popular and it's official nickname today is Virginia Tech. And the beginning days the university, many buildings on campus were used for multiple purposes. And a sum of 1879, the pavilion was built. It was located near present junction of Main Street and a northeast corner of a little my mom. It was originally used as address home at a commencement home, but in 8900, 8900 was used as a mess hall from 1880 to 91. The building called first academic building, was used as mess hall. There was a two-story building originally built for classroom instruction. Bows also used as a printing plant and administrative offices. And July 1894, commencement Hall was built. It was also known as Commerce Hall, German Hall, and mess hall at various times. Looking at south of the pavilion near present junction of Main Street and northeast corner of my mom. The first four was used as a mess hall and a second for college exercises and entertainment. This building was demolished in 950 70.
