For history major Vince Vasudevan, the Beyond Boundaries scholarship program has created an opportunity to connect with other Virginia Tech students who are passionate about learning.
I am a history major and I'm minoring in physics and National Security and Foreign Affairs. I was a physics major starting out, but midway through my sophomore year I realized that I missed writing. So I tried to say, okay, well, how can I combine my love of writing in history with physics? And there was Pat and I was even able to integrate national security in there because I was very interested in what was going on in the world and dealing with threats. You're getting the best of both worlds. You're able to learn about the history of your subject while also sharpening your stem skills. One of my fondest memories up beyond boundaries is that first banquet that I did in the fall of 2018. As a freshman, you don't really get out of your shell much. So when I went to beyond boundaries and I found a guy in my class, and we both kind of looked at each other like what are you doing here? And honestly, a friendship blossomed from that. The boundaries gives you so many connections to other Virginia Tech students. And just being able to link up with people who are passionate about learning. And passion about subjects that you're interested in is just a great experience.
