Students in the College of Natural Resources and Environment participated in a 10-day field experience at Mountain Lake Biological Station in August. Field activities included bat detecting, vegetation data collection, setting up camera traps and small mammal trapping grids, managing bird point counts, and collecting and interpreting data.

[00:00:13] >> My name is Dr Marcella Kelly and I'm from the Fisheries and Wildlife Department at Virginia Tech and this is a 10 day field intensive a required course for our wildlife students the students are learning all kinds of field techniques that are standard for catching small mammals birds herps which is reptiles and amphibians and bats. [00:00:40] see how its brown on it's sides and greyish on the top So that means that's a sidemolt is kind of in between juvenile and adult. So a lot of students get a brand new experience and it's really fun for them to handle animals and learn how to do it correctly. [00:01:05] Probably the most fun thing is really to see the students bond with each other and to get really excited and. So yes nice. To go back. And once you have control of the head by going to squeeze just control now you're good to go.
