Centralized distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) to end June 25
Since June 2020, Virginia Tech Surplus has managed a centralized distribution process for personal protective equipment (PPE) and other critical supplies, fulfilling more than 10,000 orders from university departments across the commonwealth.
Effective June 25, the university will cease that process and return to the model in which each department has responsibility for directly ordering PPE and related supplies.
Departments should continue to submit PPE orders under the current process through June 24. Surplus Property’s final fulfillment day for those orders will be June 25. For departments located beyond the Blacksburg campus, shipping will be provided for orders of reasonably-sized quantities.
After June 25, departments should resume ordering PPE through available university vendors utilizing the HokieMart system.
“Along with the good news that COVID-19 cases are decreasing and vaccinations are making a difference, we are also seeing the markets ease on the availability of PPE and critical supplies. As we move toward a new fiscal year, this frees up warehouse space for our Surplus team to deliver the other important services they provide for the university. I want to thank the entire team for the heroic job they’ve done to ensure our university stayed equipped with the PPE and critical supplies it needed to navigate this pandemic,” said Mary Helmick, director of procurement.
