President announces staff changes in Office of the President

From: Office of the President

Virginia Tech President Tim Sands has announced a reorganization to strategically align the work of the Office of the President.

Two searches will be launched this year. The first — called the senior vice president for operations and administration — will fill an existing position on the president’s leadership team. The new position, the vice president for human resources, will report to the senior vice president.

In addition, Kim O’Rourke has been named vice president for policy and governance and will serve as the secretary to the Board of Visitors. Cheryl Peterson has been named executive director of the Office of the President. Vice President Theresa Mayer and Vice President Menah Pratt-Clarke will report to the president and retain responsibilities in the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost. Lisa Wilkes, associate vice president for administration, has agreed to serve as interim vice president for human resources. Dwight Shelton, vice president for finance and chief financial officer, will serve as the interim senior vice president for operations and administration.

“As I begin my fourth year at Virginia Tech, I remain both extremely excited for what lies ahead and deeply committed to leading our university,” Sands said. “At a time when higher education is redefining itself, Virginia Tech is well-positioned to thrive in this dynamic environment and lead the way among its peers. These changes position us to best meet that challenge.”

Sands will share further details in the upcoming months about the alignment and work of the Office of the President.
