COVID-19 vaccine update for employees: Week of March 15
From: Human Resources
While there have been no substantial changes to the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine in the New River Valley or Virginia, we want to provide the following reminders and information to employees:
Have you pre-registered for the vaccine?
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and the New River Health District (NRHD) urges all individuals register themselves for the vaccine through the statewide pre-registration system.
- Employees in the New River Valley area can register by going to the NRV Road to Wellness site.
- Employees that work in other Virginia Tech locations can register through the VDH’s website.
When registering, include information about your living and working environment and medical conditions, as well as your contact information. It is important that you fill out the pre-registration survey as completely and accurately as possible. It is also important to check your registration occasionally and update as needed.
Pre-registering and keeping your information up to date will help ensure that when a vaccine is available, you will receive it as quickly as possible.
When you complete and submit the pre-registration form, the system will send a confirmation number once and you will receive regular updates from the VDH.
If you check for your registration and cannot find it in the VDH system, try variations on your name, email, or phone first. If you still cannot find your registration, call 1-877-VAX-IN-VA (829-4682) for assistance. If these steps have been exhausted, complete the pre-registration survey again.
We reported last week that more than 1,000 university employees have received the vaccine. This is in addition to employees who may have received the vaccine individually through the VDH because they are aged 65 and up or are aged 16 to 64 with a health condition that puts them at higher risk.
The NRHD reported this week that approximately 63,000 vaccines have been given in the health district. Of that number, approximately 25,000 people are fully vaccinated.
VDH has created a website to provide vaccine progress updates in the commonwealth.
AARP members are invited to a conversation about the NRV vaccine rollout on March 25 from 1 – 2 p.m. Registration is required for this event.
How you can help in the New River Valley:
If you are looking for a meaningful way to help the New River Valley during the pandemic, the NRV Business Continuity Team, hosted by the NRV Regional Commission in partnership with the NRHD, is seeking volunteers to help get our community vaccinated.
This offers a way for people to resume in-person activities that also make a difference in the community. If you are interested in volunteering, complete this survey.
Please continue to follow good health guidelines:
The CDC recently issued preliminary guidelines for fully vaccinated people. The VDH has also provided guidelines following vaccination. These guidelines continue to state that when in public, a fully vaccinated individual should continue following public health guidelines for the safety of our community until restrictions can be further relaxed or lifted.
Please stay vigilant and adhere to the university and public health guidelines.
- Avoid Close contact situations.
- Avoid Crowds.
- Avoid Closed, poorly ventilated spaces.
- Wear Masks.
