Summer 2021 virtual and in-person faculty writing retreats

From: Faculty Affairs

This summer the Provost’s Office invites you to join your fellow faculty in a community of writers. The summer faculty writing events offer a time and (in-person or virtual) place to work on whatever you want, be it scholarly projects, teaching materials, or creative or personal writing.

All Virginia Tech instructional faculty (tenured or tenure-track, collegiate, continued appointment or continued appointment track, research, extension, clinical, instructors, adjuncts) are invited to participate.

Virtual Workshop/Retreats

Throughout this summer, we will hold half-day virtual writing workshop/retreats, each of which will be facilitated by Monique Dufour. Spend one hour learning with Dufour, then join the group for 2 hours of facilitated writing time to put what you learned into practice. The goals of these workshops are to provide tools for a realistic, sustainable writing practice, create space for you to make progress on a project, and nurture a writing community. Note: there is a separate and unique registration link for each workshop.

In-Person Writing Retreat

July 27, 28, and 29

8:00 am - 1:00 p.m.

Join us at Rising Silo Farm and Brewery in Blacksburg for some collective writing time among colleagues. The space is covered but open to the outside to allow for adequate ventilation. We will provide a dedicated space, ongoing snacks and beverages, lunch, and opportunities to talk with colleagues about your writing. You provide your own computer and other writing/research materials, and a project you would like to work on. You may register for one, two, or all three days.

This event is free, but space for the in-person retreat is limited, so we ask that you commit to attend any dates you register for. Registration will remain open until June 1, 2021, and we will confirm your spot in the retreat shortly after that deadline. Preference will be given to those who have not participated in a prior summer retreat at Virginia Tech.
