Noise amplification alert: Engel Hall drilling and hammering

From: Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities

The ongoing chilled water infrastructure capital project is currently working to remove a significant underground rock formation that is hindering the installation of underground piping adjacent to Engel Hall.

To mitigate noise impacts to academic programs and in close collaboration with the Office of the University Registrar, the contractor is conducting hammering and drilling operations during periods in which classes are not offered within Engel Hall. These timeframes include:

  • Mondays through Fridays, principally from 6 to 8 a.m., and again recommencing in the evenings when scheduled classes conclude at 8 p.m. The contractor has been authorized, when feasible for the project, to also conduct hammering for the 15-minute intervals during class changes.

  • On weekends, hammering is scheduled throughout the day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on non-game Saturdays and on Sundays.

The work is predicted to continue through mid-November and the university community is thanked in advance for their patience.
