Low-pressure steam shutdown to occur June 3-10 on Virginia Tech's Blacksburg campus
From: The Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure and Facilities
A campuswide steam system shutdown will impact the supply of low-pressure steam to a significant portion of Virginia Tech's Blacksburg campus from June 3 - 10.
The shutdown is needed to perform preventative maintenance on critical systems in the university’s Central Steam Plant and on the main steam distribution system that requires a systemwide shutdown to service.
During this shutdown, the following impacts will occur:
- All low-pressure steam on the main campus supplied by the Central Steam Plant will be out of service with the exception of the steam supply to the Upper Quad precinct, which will not be impacted.
- All lab equipment requiring low-pressure steam will be out of service.
- Hot water service in Hutcheson Hall will be unavailable.
- Air conditioning will not be impacted; however, buildings may experience slightly cooler temperatures as the shutdown comes to a close and the system gears back up.
Questions regarding the steam shutdown may be directed to Assistant Vice President for Infrastructure and Chief Sustainability Officer Mary-Ann Ibeziako at (540) 231-4135 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
