Plan ahead for Virginia Tech Blacksburg campus summer road closures, traffic delays

From: The Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities; Enterprise Administrative and Business Services

To accommodate summer capital construction work, VDOT paving, and Transportation Services lot maintenance, there will be periodic road closures and traffic delays in limited areas of Virginia Tech’s Blacksburg campus during May - August.

Detours will be in effect for BT, please visit www.ridebt.org for more information.

Specific dates for road/parking lot closures and traffic delays will be communicated via VTX as they’re available.

Road closures from Virginia Tech capital construction projects:

Both lanes on the access road to the Pamplin Lot will be closed from May 16 - 22 to accommodate capital construction efforts on Hitt Hall. The Pamplin Parking Lot will be closed during this time. Emergency and delivery vehicle access will be maintained.

ADA spaces impacted by the Pamplin Lot closure will be temporarily located in the Hahn Lot, near the Hahn Lot’s existing ADA spaces along West Campus Drive.

Alternative accessible pedestrian paths will be maintained near Hahn Hall North, Derring Hall, Bishop-Favrao Hall, and Perry Street. Directional signage will be posted to assist in navigation.

Questions on closures resulting from work on Hitt Hall may be directed to Chris Carwile at carwile1@vt.edu

Throughout the lot closure, alternative accessible pedestrian paths will be maintained near Hahn Hall North, Derring Hall, Bishop-Favrao Hall, and Perry Street.

Sidewalk closures from Virginia Tech capital construction projects:

Limited portions of the sidewalk parallel to West Campus Drive - near the Classroom Building - will be closed in mid-May to replace a section of sidewalk that cracked. Existing sidewalks provide an alternative accessible pedestrian pathway. Directional signage will be posted to assist in navigation.

Questions on closures resulting from work on the chilled water project may be directed to Paul Ely at paulely@vt.edu

During the sidewalk closure, there will be a nearby alternative pedestrian pathway available.

Road closures from Town of Blacksburg capital construction projects:

Both lanes of Stanger Street (from Prices Fork Road to Kelly Hall access road) will be closed from May 16 - Aug. 12 to accommodate capital construction efforts on the Blacksburg Transit Multi-Modal Transit Facility.

Alternative accessible pedestrian pathways will be available along Goodwin Hall, across Stanger Street, and near the Surge Building. Additionally, accessible pedestrian pathways along Perry Street and within the Perry Street Garage will continue to be maintained.

Questions on closures resulting from work on the Blacksburg Transit Multi-Modal Transit Facility may be directed to Paul Ely at paulely@vt.edu
