Arbor Day 2023 celebration to include tree planting with university arborist

From: The Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities

Join the Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities and the Undergraduate Student Senate in an Arbor Day 2023 celebration during Virginia Tech's Earth Week on Saturday, April 22, at 10 a.m.

Participants are asked to convene at the Cranwell Parking Lot, located on the northeast side of the old growth forest adjacent to Lane Stadium. Work gloves and shovels are encouraged.

University Arborist Jamie King will discuss the special ecology within the old growth forest adjacent to Lane Stadium and how the community can support forests and urban forests alike. Following, King will demonstrate proper planting techniques and safety protocols.

Small groups will have the opportunity to plant 15 white oak trees grown from old growth white oaks by John R. Seiler, the Hon. and Mrs. Shelton H. Short Jr. Professor of Forestry in the College of Natural Resources and Environment.

Opportunities for group reflection will also be offered at the conclusion of the tree planting.
