Virginia Tech Policy 1070: Global Travel Policy, does not authorize university-supported international travel to locations where the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Travel Health Notice Level 3 or higher. Also, Policy 1070 does not authorize student university-supported international travel to locations where the U.S. Department of State has issued a Travel Advisory Level 3 or higher. Policy 1070 does allow for individual travelers or groups to petition the Global Travel Oversight Committee (GTOC) for an exception to Policy 1070, allowing for high-risk travel.

If your destinations are all at a Level 2 or lower advisory from both the CDC and the Department of State, your program is authorized by Policy 1070. If any of your planned destinations are at a level 3 or high advisory from either the CDC or the Department of State, you must petition to GTOC for an exception to university policy.

Please contact Allie Oberoi, assistant director for global safety and risk management, at for details on the petition process.
