Hokie Wellness offers a range of programs during March. They include:

March 7, 9-9:30 a.m.: TimelyCare Information Session: TimelyCare is a virtual health mental wellness service available to benefitted faculty and staff and non-student wage employees at no cost. Employees can access TimelyCare services regardless of their location in the United States. In this session, employees will learn more about the three free services offered by TimelyCare: free individual counseling sessions, TalkNow on-demand mental health support, and health coaching. Registration is required.

March 7, 12:30-1 p.m.: Planning for Baby (staff): Hokie Wellness invites staff employees who are expecting the birth of a child, or new parents of a child under three months of age to attend this virtual program. All expecting and new parents are welcome to attend including fathers, non-birth mothers, and adoptive parents. Topics to be discussed include benefits, leave, and resources available to new parents. Registration is required. The Zoom link will be provided after registration.

March 8 and 24, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.: REVIVE! Opioid Overdose Emergency Response Training: The opioid epidemic is a public health crisis and claimed the lives of 2,226 Virginians in the year of 2021 alone. Any person, no matter their age, income, or any other demographic, can experience an overdose or develop and struggle with a substance use disorder. Knowing how to respond and possibly reverse an opioid overdose can save someone’s life and might help them access needed resources for recovery. Come learn more about opioids, addiction, and how to respond in an emergency. You will receive a REVIVE emergency response kit and the opioid overdose reversal drug Narcan (Naloxone) to take with you free of charge. Registration is required.

March 9 and 17, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Mental Health First Aid: Mental Health First Aid takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use problems by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental illness or substance use disorder. MHFA training sessions have limited seats and this opportunity is in high demand. Before registering, please make sure you can commit to the following: Complete the pre-work at least two days prior to the instructor-led session (takes up to two hours) and attend the entirety of the instructor-led session. NOTE: Registration closes seven days prior to each training date. Registration is required.

March 16, 10 a.m.: Southgate Center Tour: Virginia Tech employees are invited to tour and learn more about Southgate Center. Southgate Center, located adjacent to Lane Stadium, serves as the primary warehouse, bakery, and food preparation site for the 11 dining centers and two food trucks on campus. The facility has 14,300 square feet of storage, employees 102 people, and makes more than 3,000 deliveries on campus each year. The center annually processes about 1.2 million pounds of produce and uses 68 tons of flour, along with distributing 192,000 bottles of Hokie Water. Space is limited, and registration is required.

March 22, 12:15-1 p.m.: Self-care Strategies: Self-care is an ongoing and multi-dimensional practice. This virtual program will provide tips for effective and sustainable self-care. Registration is required.

March 24, 12:30-1 p.m.: Planning for Baby (faculty): Hokie Wellness invites faculty employees who are expecting the birth of a child, or new parents of a child under three months of age to attend this virtual program.
