Salaried faculty and staff to receive state bonus on Dec. 1

As authorized by the 2022 state budget, a one-time bonus of $1,000 will be paid on Dec. 1, 2022 to eligible state employees. For Virginia Tech, the bonus applies to salaried faculty and staff meeting the following criteria:

• Employees must have been employed as of Aug. 10, 2022 and remain employed through Nov. 10, 2022. This includes employees who have transferred from another state agency without a break in service.
• Staff employees must have received a performance rating of “developing” or higher on their most recent performance review.
• Staff and faculty employees must have no active written notices or sanctions within the preceding 12-month period from Nov. 10, 2021 – Nov. 10, 2022.

The bonus is subject to applicable federal and state taxes, and will be prorated for salaried employees based on percent of time worked. For example, a salaried employee who works 100 percent of the time in a salaried role will receive $1,000 before taxes; a salaried employee who works 75 percent of the time in a salaried role will receive a $750 bonus before taxes.

Employees who are on short-term disability or other paid leave will receive the bonus on Dec. 1, 2022. Employees on leave without pay are not eligible for the bonus until they return to work.
