Celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month on Oct. 21

From: Office for Equity and Accessibility

The Office for Equity and Accessibility (OEA) invites all members of the Virginia Tech community to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and the 32nd anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act in October.

Hosted each year by OEA’s ADA and Accessibility Services team, the university’s annual NDEAM event celebrates the numerous and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities.

This year’s event, which will be held Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Livestock Arena, will explore the benefits of animal-assisted therapy. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free, and those who wish to attend in person must register online. Attendees also may join the event virtually on Zoom.

NDEAM is organized by the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Disability Employment Policy. The theme for 2022, "Disability: Part of the Equity Equation," recognizes the vital role people with disabilities play in making the nation's workforce diverse and inclusive.

ASL interpreting will be available at the event. If you are an individual with a disability and need additional accommodations, please contact Raksha Sharma at raksha7@vt.edu or 540-231-2567 by 5 p.m. on Oct. 19.
