Hokie Wellness offers a range of programs during August. They include:

Aug. 3, 12-1:30 p.m., Vision Board Workshop: Visualize the New Semester: Start the new semester with a plan. No matter what your goals are, a vision board – a visual representation of your goals – is a great tool to use during your journey. The program will be held at the North End Center, room 2420, and all supplies will be provided. Registration is required.

Aug. 9, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Holistic Well-being for the New Semester: Are you nurturing all aspects of your well-being? Each dimension of well-being is equally important, and our well-being in one dimension can affect our well-being in another. Join us for this virtual program to discuss the six dimensions of well-being and what it means to invest in our well-being for the semester and beyond. Registration is required.

Aug. 10, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., REVIVE! Opioid Overdose Emergency Response Training: The opioid epidemic has claimed the lives of more than 1,900 Virginians in 2020 alone. Anyone can experience an overdose or develop and struggle with addiction. Learn more about opioids, addiction, and how to respond in an emergency. You will receive a REVIVE emergency response kit and the opioid overdose reversal drug Narcan (Naloxone) free of charge. Register here or email anniecw@vt.edu. Details and directions to the training location will be provided by email approximately one week before your event.

Aug. 18, 3-4 p.m., Mindfulness, Meditation, and Movement: Mindfulness, meditation, and movement are so important to our daily well-being. Take a break from your day to learn more about the importance of mindfulness, practice meditations, and participate in chair yoga from the comfort of your office to help your day wind down. Registration is required.

Aug. 25, 4-5 p.m., EAP/LiveHealth Online: Learn more about the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), how to get connected, and what resources EAP has to offer. This virtual session will also include a brief demonstration of LiveHealth Online, a robust telehealth platform that provides Anthem COVA Care members access to a variety of medical professionals, including board-certified physicians, licensed therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, allergy specialists, and more. Registration is required.

Aug. 30, 4-5 p.m., Getting Your Dose of Vitamin G: How Gratitude Improves Well-being: Research tells us that practicing gratitude has multiple positive benefits for health and well-being. But what does it actually mean to practice gratitude? How can we develop the habit? In this virtual program, you will learn about strategies to cultivate gratitude in ways that feel accessible and nourishing. Registration is required.

* * Mark your calendar! Oct. 1, 10 a.m., New River Valley Heart Walk: Create a team and join fellow members of the Hokie Nation at this year’s American Heart Association Heart Walk! Chris Kiwus, interim senior vice president and chief business officer, and Bryan Garey, vice president for Human Resources, will serve as Virginia Tech co-chairs for this year’s American Heart Association Walk. The 1.5 mile or 5K walk or run will be held at Bisset Park in Radford. Physical and emotional health have never been more important than they are now. Joining the New River Valley Heart Walk is a great way to boost them both – all while making a huge impact in our community and saving lives. We encourage employees to form teams, raise funds, and walk Oct. 1. Information, team registration, and more is available at the Virginia Tech Heart Walk page.
