Follow community level measures for COVID in your area

From: University Relations

Since March, Virginia Tech has monitored community levels that were established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The three levels created by the CDC are low, medium, and high. CDC determines these levels by tracking such metrics as new COVID-19 admissions per 100,000 population in the past seven days, the percent of staffed inpatient beds occupied by COVID-19 patients, and total new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population in the past seven days.

The CDC recommends practicing these prevention strategies for the levels in the region where you live.

Low

  • Stay updated on vaccines
  • Get tested if you have symptoms

Medium

  • If you are at high risk for severe illness, talk to your health care provider about the precautions you should take, including wearing a mask
  • Stay updated on vaccines
  • Get tested if you have symptoms

High

  • Wear a mask indoors in public
  • Stay updated on vaccines
  • Get tested if you have symptoms
  • Take additional precautions if you are at high risk for severe illness

You may choose to where a mask at any time.  Masks are encouraged for indoor public transportation settings.
