Take action: Reminder to complete required employee training
From: Human Resources
Our commitment to serving each other through our dedication to Ut Prosim (That I May Serve) is what makes Virginia Tech’s culture unique. The following message is not just about training, it is about making that commitment to ensure that each of us is doing our part to ensure Virginia Tech’s inclusive culture endures beyond us. We are each accountable for our part in maintaining a friendly, safe, and positive environment for ourselves and our students.
All employees are required to complete the following compliance courses. Additional courses may be required based on a position’s responsibilities.
The following courses must be completed one time when a new employee joins Virginia Tech:
- State of Virginia: Civilian Response for Active Shooter Events: This course is designed to improve the safety and survivability of victims of active attacks and mass shooting events.
- State of Virginia: The Road to Cultural Competence: This course is provided to assist in engaging positively with a world that is complex and diverse and fostering an inclusive workplace.
Courses that must be completed yearly or every two years:
- State of Virginia: Employee Safety and Disaster Awareness: This course is designed to improve employee preparedness for on-the-job safety and other potential hazards. This is an annual requirement.
- Compliance: Title IX / Policy 1025 / VAWA: This course discusses University Policies 1025 and 1026 and focuses on the prevention of discrimination, harassment, and gender-based and/or sexual violence. This course also covers applicable state and federal civil rights laws. This is a biannual requirement.
All courses are available in PageUp LMS. An employee must complete any required training during their normal working day.
If these courses have been completed, they can be found in PageUp LMS under About me, selecting Development plan, then selecting the Completed tab. Thirty days prior to a course expiring, VT Training will send a notice. You are welcome to complete the training prior to the compliance course’s expiration. If any of these courses are expired and another has not been completed, then you are out of compliance.
Thank you for your commitment to a safe, inclusive, and friendly environment at Virginia Tech.
