Virginia Tech will kick off the 2022 spring semester with its annual Winter Weeks of Welcome, the premier spring transitional program, running from Jan. 15-22. Various events across campus have been created or coordinated by New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) tailored to new and returning students looking to have fun and create community with their new peers.

A prelude to Winter Weeks of Welcome is Spring Orientation, a day-long event planned for Jan. 14. This orientation program is designed for students and families to learn about the Virginia Tech campus and academic life, meet other new Hokies, connect with a current student leader serving as their Orientation Leader, hear about ways to get involved and make sure new students are “On Track” with resources to help them succeed.

Highlighting events on the first day of Winter Weeks of Welcome include a Matinee Movie in Colonial Hall in Squires, a movie selected by our students in an Instagram poll, and a Silent Disco, a unique party experience where all guests are wearing specially designed wireless glowing headphones, in Commonwealth Ballroom in Squires.

Like previous welcome weeks, a variety of events run all week long, allowing students time and plenty of opportunities to find what piques their interests. There’s the ever-popular Big Bingo Event, while the Breakzone is offering half off prices for students on Jan. 16. Group exercise Classes are free all week in McComas Hall, and the Squires Art Gallery is hosting "A Mindful Welcome Series" and "Experience Black Love" exhibits all week as well.

There is also a Flowerpot Painting and Do-It-Yourself Craft Night during the week, while GobblerNights: Winterfest caps off the week on Jan. 21, with lots of fun winter-themed activities, including iceless skating, iceless curling, an inflatable snowboard, cookie-decorating, trivia, and more.

NSFP is encouraging students to download the Hokies on Track app for either My First Year or My Transfer First Year to get the most up-to-date information on the Winter Weeks of Welcome schedule. The schedule and links to the Hokies on Track app are also available online at
