Virginia Tech's TRIO Programs has been awarded a $1.88 million, five-year extension from the U.S. Department of Education to continue helping first-generation and economically disadvantaged students in Southwest Virginia graduate from high school and pursue higher education.
Middle school students from Southwest Virginia take part in a retreat through Talent Search at Virginia Tech. Talent Search supports middle and high school students in college preparation. Students who qualify to participate in Talent Search are the first in their families to earn a four-year degree, or they meet income-eligibility requirements, or they show demonstrated need for help with the college process. It’s one of the federal TRIO programs based on campus.
