Each year around Veterans Day, Virginia Tech recognizes employees who served their country as members of the military. This year, approximately 333 employees who self-identify as veterans will receive a gift of appreciation.

Each veteran will receive an invitation to the university’s Veterans Day events along with a Virginia Tech lunch box gift, hand delivered by members of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets.

During the pandemic, employees received their gift through campus mail.

“It is an honor for Human Resources to partner with the Corps of Cadets again to show appreciation to our employees who have served the country,” said Bryan Garey, vice president for human resources. “Hand-delivered gifts are a small way to thank our veterans for their dedication and loyalty. Their service exemplifies our motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).”

“The annual Veterans Day ceremony, held on the morning of Nov. 11, honors all living veterans who have served, or are still serving, our nation,” said Commandant of Cadets Maj. Gen. Fullhart.  “There are a significant number of veterans working at Virginia Tech, and we highly encourage their recognition and certainly would hope to see them at the ceremony.”

The Veterans Day remembrance ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in the War Memorial Chapel at 601 Drillfield Drive. Beginning at 11 a.m., the memorial wreath will be placed in front of the cenotaph on War Memorial Court.
