Dear Hokies,

Over the last few weeks, I — like many of you — have been watching the widespread unrest in Iran, where protests have erupted following the death of Mahsa Amini. As a campus community, we are deeply saddened about the death of Ms. Amini as well as others who have lost their lives while protesting in Iran. Our thoughts and hopes for peace are with our community members as well as their family members and friends who have connections to the region.

During times of instability, whether that be caused by a conflict or a natural disaster, we recognize that members across our Virginia Tech community will be impacted. Therefore, it is important that together, we continue to strive in creating a culture that affirms the inherent dignity and value of all people.

If you or someone you know is struggling with recent events, Virginia Tech has many options for support across the university. We are here to help, and I encourage you to take advantage of the many resources available to our students and employees.

With hope and in solidarity,

Martha Glass
Interim Dean of Students
