Karen Troutman, retired assistant director of facilities finance, passed away on Oct. 23.

Troutman was born on Aug. 12, 1956 in Martinsville, Virginia to Richard and Nancy Haynes Hall.

Troutman joined Virginia Tech in April 2009. During her service to the university, she supervised the daily operation of the Business Office and Warehouse within the Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities.  She oversaw the development and modernization of a robust team and processes that supported improved operations and fiscal responsibility.  She retired from her role in October 2019. 

“Karen’s impact was positive and significant.” said Chris Kiwus, vice president for campus planning, infrastructure, and facilities.  “Her proactive, logical nature – complemented by her unwavering support for system improvements – promoted a consistent, confident culture among our division.”  

Troutman was a member of Marathon Church.  She enjoyed gardening, visiting the beach, and collecting art.  She took great pride in being a grandmother - or “Mimi” - for her granddaughter.

Troutman is survived by her husband; son, Richard Lee Troutman and his significant other, Samantha; daughter, Emily Brashier and husband, Kyle; granddaughter, Harper Layne Brashier; and sister, Debra Galanif and husband, Edward.  She is preceded in death by her parents.
