Saad Ragab honored with emeritus status
Saad Ragab, professor of biomedical engineering and mechanics in the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of professor emeritus by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The emeritus title may be conferred on retired professors, associate professors, and administrative officers who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.
A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1984, Ragab made significant contributions to the field of fluid mechanics with specific applications to turbulence, hydrodynamic stability, aerodynamics, and computational analyses. He has written more than 190 publications including books, book chapters, peer-reviewed articles, reports, conference proceedings, and talks on these subjects.
In addition, Ragab served as associate editor for the Journal of Fluids Engineering and the Mathematical Problems in Engineering, has been a session chair for multiple conferences, and has served on many organizing committees for conferences and symposia.
Ragab has taught a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses across the engineering mechanics curriculum. He has mentored or co-mentored 24 students on master’s degree and Ph.D. dissertations and has helped them develop successful careers in both academic and industrial settings.
Ragab received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Cairo and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech.
