Thanks to the generosity of Virginia Tech employees and donors, the 2022 Employees’ Spouse and Dependent Scholarship helped make Virginia Tech education a little more affordable for eight students. Each student received $1,200 for the 2022-23 academic year.

An annual scholarship reception is held each fall semester to recognize the awarded students, their families, and the donors. This year’s reception was held in August to provide an opportunity for the students and their families to meet each other and the scholarship committee.

Students and their families expressed their appreciation for the donors and the scholarship.

Scholarship recipient Keegan Appea, majoring in property management, said the scholarship helped his mom afford the extra cost for him to live on campus.

“I've lived in Blacksburg my entire life and wanted to live on campus, experience the diversity, meet new people, and enjoy all of the great things that living on campus has to offer,” he said. “I'm very thankful for the opportunity and am enjoying campus living.”

Since 2000, when the scholarship was established, more than 250 incoming students have received assistance. Each year the amount and number of recipients differ, based on the available funds.

This year, 18 students submitted their applications for the scholarship and eight students were selected.

Scholarship donations are funded mainly from Virginia Tech employees, but anyone is welcome to donate.
