Bernard W. 'Chuck' Taylor honored with emeritus status
Bernard W. "Chuck" Taylor, the R.B. Pamplin Professor of Management Science in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of R.B Pamplin Professor of Management Science Emeritus by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The emeritus title may be conferred on retired professors, associate professors, and administrative officers who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.
A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1975, Taylor made significant contributions in research in the fields of management science and operations management. He authored more than 80 research articles in his career, co-authoring the textbook "Operations and Supply Chain Management," 10th Edition, and authoring the textbook "Introduction to Management Science," 13th Edition.
An elected fellow of the Decision Sciences Institute, Taylor served in a number of important offices and on numerous professional committees, including president of the national and the southeast region, receiving Distinguished Service Awards from both.
Taylor was head of the Department of Business Information Technology for 34 years, serving from 1983-2017. He was an outstanding teacher at both the undergraduate and graduate level and received his college’s Certificate of Teaching Excellence, Virginia Tech’s Certificate of Teaching Excellence, and his college’s Ph.D. Teaching Award. He advised and counseled numerous graduate students across the university, including service as chair of three Ph.D. dissertation committees and membership on several more college and university doctoral committees.
Taylor received his bachelor’s degree from Georgia Tech University and an MBA and Ph.D. from the University of Georgia.
