Julia Allen has joined the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design as assistant dean of advancement.

Allen, who spent the last three years as assistant dean of advancement of the College of Natural Resources and Environment, brings more than two decades of higher education fundraising experience to the newly reformed college.

“While I’ve been with Virginia Tech since 2019, I am thrilled to have the privilege of working in such a creative and vibrant space and am excited about the future for our college,” she said.

With approval from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia effective July 1, the reshaped College of Architecture, Arts, and Design brings together the performing and visual arts and design disciplines while retaining its roots in the college’s history of architectural innovation.

“Julia’s strong track record in leading development and alumni relations programs will continue to serve Virginia Tech and the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design well,” said Dan Cleveland, assistant vice president for advancement. “With Julia’s talent for forging meaningful, long-lasting connections, we’re confident she will continue to make a real difference in helping others align their philanthropy with their passions.”

Before arriving at Virginia Tech, Allen served as the chief development officer and executive director of the foundation at Gaston College in North Carolina, and before that she led development efforts for Discovery Place in Charlotte, Lenoir-Rhyne University, and the Catawba Valley (North Carolina) Area Girl Scout Council.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy from Lenoir-Rhyne University and a master’s degree in higher education, community college, and university leadership from Appalachian State University.
