Myriam Jimenez joins veterinary college as clinical assistant professor of production management medicine

Myriam Jimenez recently joined the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine as clinical assistant professor of production management medicine.
“I am excited for the vigor that Dr. Myriam Jimenez conveys to the production management medicine group. She brings a focus on neonatal weakness and investigating metabolic conditions in dairy cattle. She should be able to find collaborations that will flourish around the college,” said Sherrie Clark, interim department head of the Large Animal Clinical Sciences Department and professor of theriogenology.
As part of clinical service, Jimenez will work at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, which provides routine patient care, emergency services, and referral services. It offers on-the-farm primary care to animals within a 35-mile radius of Blacksburg. She will also conduct research and teach.
Inspired to go into veterinary medicine after childhood experiences tagging along with her veterinarian uncle, Jimenez earned her doctor of veterinary medicine from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City.
She then attended the University of Florida for a combined master's-residency program in food animal medicine and reproduction, after which she completed a Ph.D. at the same institution.
As production animal management faculty, she will work with many different animals — but, she admits, cows are her favorite.
Jimenez said she was interested in joining the veterinary college because of its welcoming faculty.
"I really felt like I fit in with them, and they accepted me really well. They're the kind of people who don't just keep knowledge to themselves; they give it freely,” Jimenez said.
