The Sexual Violence Culture and Climate Work Group continues its work to create sustainable campus change aimed at ending sexual violence in the campus community.

The group recently held two planning meetings and discussed how to create a strategic path forward consistent with President Tim Sands’ emphasis on broadly engaging the community in its work, and in particular, engaging student voices.

The work group will split into subcommittees, each focused on one element of the overall group’s charge. In the coming weeks, descriptions of each subcommittee will be shared widely with the community in an effort to solicit additional student members on each subcommittee. 

“We are seeking voices from across the university to help guide and inform this work,” said Katie Polidoro, Title IX coordinator at the university and chair of the work group. “We especially hope that LGBTQ+ students and students of color, who we know from our surveys experience higher rates of sexual violence, will agree to serve on subcommittees. Their experiences and perspectives will significantly improve our work.”

Subcommittees have been formed to address the following areas:

  • strategic frameworks for cultural transformation;
  • transparency in campus operations;
  • communications;
  • community engagement; and
  • implementing the 2019 End Sexual Violence Committee recommendations.

In addition to student members, additional faculty and staff will be added to each subcommittee.

The work group expects to have fully staffed subcommittees established within the first two weeks of the spring 2022 semester.
