William Price, associate professor of career and technical education in the School of Education in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of associate professor emeritus by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The emeritus title may be conferred on retired professors, associate professors, and administrative officers who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.

A member of the Virginia Tech faculty since 1982, Price made significant contributions to the field of career and technical education, focusing on teaching, research, extension, and international and local outreach programs. He received more than $8.6 million in research and outreach grants, wrote a book and dozens of papers, and published many more articles, monographs, technical guides, and posters.

Price gave leadership to Virginia Tech’s Career and Technical Education program by teaching several undergraduate and graduate courses ranging across the program’s curriculum. He provided leadership to his students through exemplary mentoring, instruction, and research. He also advised master’s degree students, supervised their internships, and supervised Ph.D. dissertations, all of which helped the students develop successful careers in both academic and industrial settings.

In addition, Price established a Virginia Tech study abroad program in Zambia that developed strategic linkages with the government of the Republic of Zambia and institutions of higher learning in that nation to help strengthen the country’s workforce development systems. He also conducted a series of workshops aimed at helping develop the teaching skills of educators in Afghanistan.

Price received his associate’s degree from Bluefield State College, a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Virginia Tech, and a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
