U.S. Army 1st Lt. Patrick Fields, a 2019 Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus who earned degrees in international studies and Russian from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, was selected as the Hokie Hero for Saturday’s football game at West Virginia.

The Hokie Hero program honors corps alumni who are deployed. Recipients are highlighted by Jon Laaser and Mike Burnop during their radio broadcast of Hokie football games, on the Corps of Cadets website, and in the Corps Review alumni magazine.

Fields is stationed in Camp Buehring, Kuwait, as a member of the 247 Composite Supply Company, 393rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division Expeditionary Support Command. He serves as a petroleum support operations platoon leader, supervising 68 soldiers and responsible for over $17 million in equipment. This is his first deployment.
