Lynn Short, selfless Virginia Tech alumnus and retired Virginia Tech Electric employee, passed away Aug. 28, 2021. 

Lynn Barry Short was born on March 28, 1947, to Robert E. Short and Edna Short Kennedy in Lewis, Delaware. 

Short graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.A. in electrical engineering. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Leahy. Short worked for Appalachian Power and the city of Martinsville prior to joining Virginia Tech Electric within the Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities. He retired in 2016. 

He was known for his Ut Prosim spirit and dedication to his community. He served in several leadership positions for the Boy Scouts of America, Patrick County School Board, Municipal Electric Power Association of Virginia, and Cascade Mountain Property Owners Association. He also was a member of the Stuart Rotary Club and the Virginia Arabian Horse Association.

Short is survived by his wife, Sharon Short; daughter, Moriah Dollarhite; three sons: David Short, Mitchell Wayne Tankersley Jr., and Jeffrey Tankersley; brother, Robert E. Short Jr.; sister, Roberta Hensley; and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. 

Short is preceded in death by both parents and sisters\ Rebecca Weaver and Norma Lee Boyer. 

Funeral, with military honors, will be held at Norris Funeral Services in Stuart, Virginia, on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Patrick Memorial Gardens in Stuart, Virginia.

Short’s family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. They kindly request all visitors to wear a mask to help reduce the airborne transmission of COVID-19.
