In memoriam: Robert Vallee, Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities
Robert Vallee, dedicated Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities employee, passed away on July 31.
Vallee was an extraordinary person known for his positive attitude and meaningful friendships.
Robert Leonard Vallee Jr. was born on March 18, 1962, in Waterbury, Connecticut, to Robert L Vallee Sr. and Gail W St. Germain Vallee.
Vallee graduated from T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1980. He joined the United States Navy and served 20 years in the submarine force as a radioman. He was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina; Naples, Italy; Kingsland/Saint Mary’s, Georgia; as well as Groton, Connecticut, several times.
While in Connecticut, he served on the USS Alexandria while it was being built, launched, and commissioned. The last submarine he served on was the USS Tennessee.
Vallee retired from the military in 2001. He had been awarded Navy Achievement Medal (3); Fifth Good Conduct Award; National Defense Service Medal; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (6); Navy and Marine Overseas Service Ribbon (2); Enlisted Breast Insignia; and SSBN Deterrent Patrol Pin.
He went to work for Western Illinois University in 2010 and worked at Virginia Tech from 2016 to present.
Vallee is survived by two daughters, Morgan (Jacob) Miller of Sciota, Illinois, and Alexandra Vallee of Oquawka, Illinois; as well as sister Candace Vallee and brother Scott (Lynn) Vallee of Melbourne, Florida. He was preceded in death by both parents and both sets of grandparents.
Burial will be in Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery with military honors in Dublin, Virginia, on Friday, Aug. 13, at 2 p.m.
