The Northern Virginia Center, Virginia Tech Research Center-Arlington, and sites in Alexandria will open at 2 p.m. on Feb. 2 Classes with a start time before 2 p.m. will meet online.  Classes with a start time of 2 p.m. or later will meet according to their standard modality, depending on the availability of the instructor.  If you have questions about arrangements for your specific class, please consult Canvas or contact your professor.

The Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg will open for outpatient appointments and elective cases at 10 a.m. on Feb. 2. Essential personnel should report as scheduled. The center will be open for emergency cases and staffed to attend to current inpatients.

The Southern Piedmont AREC will open one hour late on Feb. 2.

Snow routes are no longer in effect for the Blacksburg campus.

Blacksburg Transit is operating on regular schedule.

Due to inclement weather, the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, the Animal Cancer Care and Research Center, and other academic units located at the Health Sciences and Technology campus at Riverside Circle in Roanoke will open at 10 a.m. on Feb. 1.

All classes in the D.C. area will meet online for Feb. 1 at their regularly scheduled times. For those with questions about arrangements for a specific classe, please consult Canvas or contact your professor.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for much of the New River, Roanoke, and Shenandoah valley regions to take effect at 10 p.m. Saturday. The Washington, D.C., area is under a Winter Storm Warning from 1 a.m. on Jan. 31 to midnight on Feb. 1. Any impacts to campus operations that are caused by the anticipated winter storm will be posted to the university's status page.

The National Weather Service has announced a potential significant winter weather event for the Blacksburg and Roanoke areas for the evening of Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021; all day Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021; and potentially into Monday, Feb. 1, 2021.

In anticipation of potential wintry weather beginning during the evening hours of Jan. 30, 2021, Virginia Tech has put snow emergency routes in effect on the Blacksburg campus starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30.

This designation goes into effect prior to road conditions deteriorating to support snow removal and emergency vehicle movement.

Potential parking and bus route impacts

  • When a snow route emergency is declared, certain roads on campus must remain open for emergency vehicle use. All vehicles parked along five roads (parallel and diagonal) must be removed or they will be towed at the owner's expense.
