Virginia Tech Board of Visitors to meet Aug. 23-25
The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors will hold its quarterly board meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 1:15 p.m. at Moss Arts Center (190 Alumni Mall) on the Blacksburg campus.
On Sunday, Aug. 23, a retreat will be held in open session for all new and returning board members from 11:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pavilion at Historic Smithfield (1000 Smithfield Plantation Road, Blacksburg). Board members will receive background information on Virginia Tech as well as discuss broad issues facing institutions of higher education today.
On Monday, Aug. 24, board members will tour the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, located at 4 Riverside Circle in Roanoke, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and will tour the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, located at 2 Riverside Circle in Roanoke, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Board members will also tour the milking facility at Kentland Farm (5250 Whitethorne Road, Blacksburg) from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.
Later that day, an information session will be held in open session for all board members from 3 to 4:15 p.m. in the Latham Ballroom at the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center (901 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg).
During the board's three-day session, the following committee meetings will be held:
On Monday, Aug. 24, the Academic, Research, and Student Affairs Committee will meet in open session starting at 9:30 a.m. in Room G-102 of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC. On Tuesday, Aug. 25, the committee will meet jointly with the Finance and Resource Management Committee in closed session at 8 a.m.
On Aug. 25, the Buildings and Grounds Committee will meet in open session at 9:30 a.m. in Latham Ballroom. This committee will be joined by the Finance and Resource Management Committee at 11 a.m. and meet in open session.
On Aug. 24, the Compliance, Audit, and Risk Committee will meet in closed session, followed by open session beginning at 4:30 p.m. in Latham Ballroom.
The Finance and Resource Management Committee will meet Aug. 25 in open session beginning at 8:30 a.m. in Latham Ballroom.
During the three-day meeting, board members will receive reports on the Innovation Campus in Northern Virginia, the planning for the sesquicentennial celebration in 2022, new Title IX regulations, and the current state of university fundraising and the research enterprise. Board members will also receive a design review of the Data and Decision Sciences building to be located on the corner of Prices Fork Road and West Campus Drive, and will consider resolutions to demolish the Art and Design Learning Center and Femoyer Hall.
