Beginning in the fall of 2020, students will be able to use the Common Application (“Common App”) when applying to Virginia Tech. The Common App’s stated values of access, equity, and integrity align seamlessly with the values of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the university.

“Over the past two years, our office has transformed the admissions process, making it more accessible for more students. Adding the Common App is the next logical step,” said Director of Admissions Juan Espinoza.

Virginia Tech will be joining more than 800 colleges and universities already using the Common App. The application is designed to make it easy for students to apply to multiple colleges. More than 5.5 million applications were submitted by students from every state and over 19 countries during the 2018-19 admissions cycle.

Previously, students applied to Virginia Tech through the Coalition Application only, and that remains an option. According to Espinoza, “it’s important for students to have choices so they can use the application platform that works best for them.”

With the addition of the Common App, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions continues its momentum in evolving an application process that eliminates barriers and makes a college education more attainable for more students. Espinoza noted that, “with a record number of underserved and underrepresented students in this fall’s incoming class, adding the Common App will help Virginia Tech continue fulfilling its mission of partnering with students from the commonwealth, the nation, and the world in a top-tier educational experience.”
