Linda Tegarden honored with emerita status
Linda Tegarden, associate professor of management in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of associate professor emerita by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The emerita title may be conferred on retired professors, associate professors, and administrative officers who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.
A member of the Virginia Tech faculty since 1994, Tegarden made significant contributions to academia through her work on technology innovation, focusing on technology decisions linked to firm survival and performance in emerging technology contexts. Her scholarship has been published in business, technology, and engineering journals and has been presented at Academy of Management and Strategic Management conferences.
Tegarden has served as a consultant to nonprofit organizations and received the outstanding service awards from both the Pamplin College of Business and the university for such initiatives in 2007. Specifically, she contributed strategic and financial assistance to a hospice house start-up initiative and involved the supervision of MBA student projects. She served on its board of directors for several years.
In addition, Tegarden supported the revision of the Department of Management curriculum as chair of the curriculum committee and oversaw the development of new course proposals for management major options and the entrepreneurship minor. She also led the curriculum and course revision for the undergraduate Strategic Management course and trained up to eight faculty and instructors each semester for 10 years.
In the classroom, Tegarden taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses ranging across the strategy and technology innovation curriculum. She taught Management in Innovation in the Master of Information Technology degree program and entrepreneurship in both the undergraduate and MBA programs.
Tegarden received her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University, an MBA from Indiana State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
