Christina McIntyre named vice president of National Collegiate Honors Council
Christina McIntyre, Virginia Tech director of professional development, national and international scholarships, has been elected vice president of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC). NCHC’s mission is to support and strengthen the community of educational institutions, professionals, and students who partake in collegiate honors education worldwide.
"Exchanging ideas with colleagues from honors programs and colleges across the country and the world is inspiring," said McIntyre. “This exchange of best practices and unique opportunities will, ultimately, benefit our students.”
NCHC produces a peer-reviewed journal (JNCHC), a best practices publication (Honors in Practice), a peer-reviewed undergraduate research journal (UReCA), and timely monographs. Two NCHC hallmark place-based learning programs are Place-As-Text and Partners in the Parks (PITP). Partners is a collaboration with the National Park Service established in 2008 through a NPS Centennial Grant. Since then, NCHC has sponsored more than 100 projects at 50 different national parks for over a thousand student participants.
For the past three years, McIntyre has served on the Board of Directors for NCHC. She previously served as chair for the Major Scholarships Committee and the Partners in the Parks Committee. McIntyre has led Partners projects in Great Smoky Mountain National Park, the Appalachian Trail, the C&O Canal Trail, and Harper’s Ferry National Historic Park.
McIntyre will serve a four-year term as vice president (2020), president-elect (2021), president (2022) and past-president (2023). Her first significant responsibility will be chairing the planning committee for the 2021 national conference to be held in Orlando, Florida.
As a member of the executive committee – along with the board of directors, committees and the national staff – McIntyre will help implement a newly envisioned strategic plan to help guide the organization into its sixth decade in five key areas: Organizational Excellence, Professional Development, Research, Advocacy & Partnerships, and Diversity & Inclusion.
