Dawn Zimmer has joined Virginia Tech as the new executive director for Information Technology Experience and Engagement (ITEE) in the Division of Information Technology.

Working with Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer Scott Midkiff, Zimmer provides strategic direction for communications and outreach, user engagement, and experience design and improvement to ensure a quality user experience for Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff as well as business and community partners interacting with the Division of IT.

Zimmer has more than 20 years of experience in information technology, service delivery, business partnerships, relationship management, and strategic planning and execution. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, she served as director for business partnership services at the Federal Aviation Administration, culminating a 15+ year career at the agency. Her resume also includes strategic leadership roles at the Department of Justice and General Electric.

“Dawn has extensive experience in information technology service delivery and a clear commitment to service, excellence, and continuous improvement,” said Midkiff. “Her leadership will allow ITEE and the IT division to continue to improve services to Virginia Tech’s students, staff, and faculty and to align those services with Virginia Tech’s strategic priorities.”

One of Zimmer’s stated goals for ITEE and the Division of IT in 2020 is to be “brilliant at the basics.” This philosophy focuses on fundamentals and builds upon a team’s proven strength, success, and expertise. For the Division of IT, this means continuing to provide excellent customer service, deliver accurate and precise work, and produce quality products and services that will meet the university’s needs into the future — while continuing to raise the bar as a team.

“I am extremely excited to be part of the Virginia Tech community. I look forward to working closely with the staff, the senior leadership team, and our stakeholders on service delivery programs that create value and provide an exceptional customer experience,” says Zimmer.

Zimmer received her bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing from Ramapo College in New Jersey.
