From: Virginia Tech Police Department

On Sept. 30 and Oct. 10, the Virginia Tech Police Department notified the community of multiple larcenies of packages that had occurred in some Virginia Tech residential halls. A suspect involved in some of those larcenies has been identified, is being cooperative, and has admitted responsibility for their involvement.

While there is no information as this time to indicate the suspect acted with anyone else, the investigation is ongoing. Virginia Tech Police continues to urge the campus community to remain vigilant and to continue to report any suspicious activity and/or any information about this particular series of thefts to the Virginia Tech Police Department at the non-emergency number, 540-382-4343. Information may also be submitted online at https://police.vt.edu/crime.html.

The Virginia Tech Police Department offers the following safety tips:

  • Require a signature for delivery when offered.
  • Make arrangements for delivery with a trusted source.
  • All residents are reminded to lock their doors when out of the room or sleeping. All personal items in a residence hall room can become easy targets and an unlocked door can be an invitation to a thief.

Community members should report all crimes and suspicious activity/persons anywhere on campus immediately to the Virginia Tech Police Department at 540-382-4343 or by dialing 911.

Anonymous tips can be reported online at https://police.vt.edu/anonymous.html or via the LiveSafe mobile app (for android and iPhone devices).
