Emily Roediger named director of communications for the College of Architecture and Urban Studies
Emily Roediger has been named director of communications for the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech.
Roediger brings with her more than 10 years of professional experience in education, administration, and institutional advancement.
In her new role, Roediger will lead an integrated, digitally driven communications strategy that highlights college impact, drives constituent engagement, and builds upon the college’s international profile. With an emphasis on strategic and creative storytelling, she will be responsible for cohesive messaging through college websites, social media platforms, publications, and news media outreach. She’ll also play an integral role in advancement efforts to promote and elevate such college initiatives such as smart construction, experiential and project-based learning, and transdisciplinary collaboration.
Roediger comes to the College of Architecture and Urban Studies after two years as the director of marketing and communications in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics within the Virginia Tech College of Engineering. Working closely with a variety of stakeholders, she redesigned the department’s digital content strategy and web presence, streamlined messaging and visual representation, and highlighted departmental research through storytelling and media relations.
Prior to joining Virginia Tech, Roediger served as the director of marketing and communications for George Walton Academy, a K-12 college preparatory academy in Monroe, Georgia. There she coordinated with other senior leaders in development, admissions, academics, and administration to implement a comprehensive digital communications and marketing strategy for the school. She also collaborated extensively on fundraising efforts, donor relations, campus events, and alumni relations.
Roediger began her career in the classroom. She has taught at both the college and secondary level on creative writing, composition and rhetoric, literature, and instructional technology.
She holds a master’s degree in education from Georgia Southern University and a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from the University of Georgia. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Texas A&M University.
