After serving as prime minister for more than a decade, Israel’s April 9 election will determine Benjamin Netanyahu’s political survival against a newly formed Blue and White party. Virginia Tech expert Joel Peters is available to discuss the results of the election, the makeup of the next Israeli government, and the potential for change in Israel’s domestic politics and foreign policy.

About Peters

Joel Peters is interim director and professor in the School of Public and International Affairs based at Virginia Tech in the National Capital Region. For the past thirty years, Peters has been an active participant in various informal, track-two meetings between Israelis and Palestinians on issues ranging from Jerusalem, refugees, borders, economic development and regional security. He has also served as an academic consultant to the European Commission on economic cooperation in the Middle East.

His research interests and publications cover Israeli politics and foreign policy, the Arab-Israeli peace process, regional cooperation in the Middle East and Europe’s relations in the Middle East and the Mediterranean. He is the author of the book Understanding Israel: Political, Societal and Security Challenges. Peters is regularly consulted by the international media on Israeli politics and has been the studio analyst for BBC radio for past Israeli elections.
