The university’s Blacksburg campus will be filled with music for this year’s Virginia Tech Music Day. Organized by students, this fourth annual event will feature more than 20 student and local musicians performing in various outdoor locations on Friday, April 12, from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Beginning in 2016 with the motto “Ut Musica Faciam” (That I May Make Music), Virginia Tech Music Day is designed to celebrate the music-making of area performers and share their sounds with the university community.

The event is organized by the Moss Arts Center Student Ambassadors, a student group that represents the Moss Arts Center at various events and helps promote the center’s events to students. The ambassadors work to recruit student and community musicians, identify key outdoor spaces across campus for performances, and schedule performances in each of the areas.

While there are scheduled performances throughout the day, all area musicians are encouraged to participate by finding a spot on campus to jam.

Below is a schedule of some of the Virginia Tech Music Day performances:

Musicians of all kinds will be featured at locations across campus, including the Moss Arts Center’s Leon Harris '64 and Beverly Harris Amphitheatre, Newman Library Plaza, Lavery Hall, Dietrick Plaza/D2, War Memorial Hall, and Hokie Grill and Co. at Owens Hall.

The day will culminate with a performance by renowned jazz master Cyrus Chestnut and the Grammy-winning Turtle Island Quartet at 7:30 p.m. in the Moss Arts Center’s Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre, located within the Street and Davis Performance Hall.

Tickets for the performance featuring Cyrus Chestnut and the Turtle Island Quartet are $20-45 for general audience and $10 for students and youth 18 and under. Tickets can be purchased online; at the Moss Arts Center's box office, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; or by calling 540-231-5300 during box office hours.

The center also offers free last minute rush tickets for Virginia Tech students who sign up for text notifications. To receive these notifications, text “arts” to 31996. Availability of rush tickets varies by performance and tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last in the box office. Virginia Tech ID will be required for admission.
