What:  Virginia Tech will host the former Senior Vice President and Chief Economist of the World Bank, Kaushik Basu, for a discussion of technological advances and the changing nature of work.  Basu is professor of economics and the C. Marks Professor of International Studies at Cornell University.

Background:  Pressure to automate is growing as companies seek to cut labor costs in a tight job market. U.S. companies installed more robots last year than ever before. Many experts describe automation and labor markets as one of the most pressing business issues of the 21st century.
