Virginia Tech Police actively engaged in boosting statewide safety efforts
Virginia Tech Police Chief Kevin Foust was recently elected president of the Virginia Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (VACLEA) Executive Board for the 2019-20 year.
Foust’s election to the VACLEA Executive Board will offer opportunities for Virginia Tech to be at the forefront of efforts to improve college campus safety and the safety of citizens across Virginia.
VACLEA members include chiefs of police, senior police executive staff, and directors of security from public and private universities across the commonwealth. VACLEA is an affiliate organization of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police and Foundation. Participants come together during regular meetings, conferences, and networking opportunities throughout the year. Foust has been a VACLEA member since 2011.
VACLEA leadership works closely with legislators at the state and federal level to raise awareness and impact legislation around law enforcement issues affecting not only the safety and security of college communities, but the safety and well-being of citizens as a whole.
For example, VACLEA members have been highly engaged on issues around prohibiting the use of hand-held communications devices while driving, improving safety standards for purchasing guns in the commonwealth, and more.
