Moss Arts Center exhibitions celebrate the university’s curiosity, creativity, and innovation
A series of upcoming exhibitions celebrates the university’s curiosity, creativity, and innovation and features both traditional and digital media, sculpture and video, and drawing and painting.
Beginning in early April, the Moss Arts Center will feature works created by faculty members and students from Virginia Tech’s School of Visual Arts, as well as researchers associated with the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology.
The inaugural “SOVA Faculty Triennial” will highlight new works from current faculty members in the School of Visual Arts. Spanning a wide variety of media, subject matter, and scale, these works and site-specific installations explore and expand upon both traditional and cutting-edge approaches to artmaking, highlighting the creativity, ingenuity, and skill of the school’s faculty.
Featured in the Ruth C. Horton Gallery, Miles C. Horton Jr. Gallery, and Sherwood Payne Quillen ’71 Reception Gallery, the “SOVA Faculty Triennial” will open with a reception on April 4 from 5-7 p.m. in the Grand Lobby of the Moss Arts Center, located at 190 Alumni Mall. Artist talks will begin at 6:00 p.m.
The exhibition will be on view until May 4 and will include new and recent works by Betsy Bannan, Sam Blanchard, Michael Borowski, Meaghan Dee, Les Duffield, Jennifer Hand, Travis Head, Wonjung Jung, Nate King, Wallace Lages, Hiromi Okumura, Joy Rosenthal, Amelia Salisbury, Eric Standley, Knic Umstead, and Rachel Weaver.
On view in the center’s Francis T. Eck Exhibition Corridor from April 4-June 1, “ICAT: Open (at the) Source” encourages visitors to explore and experience the research and innovation that’s happening within the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT). Visitors will become more than just viewers, but partners in exploration with the students, faculty, and staff of ICAT and its creative community. The exhibition features innovative works inspired by the theme “Perspectives” that are at the intersection of geography and computer science, evolutionary genomics and visual art, and documentary film and the natural sciences.
On May 9, the “SOVA Senior Show” opens in the Moss Arts Center’s Miles C. Horton Jr. Gallery and Sherwood Payne Quillen ’71 Reception Gallery. This annual exhibition features original and innovative works by graduating seniors in the School of Visual Arts and demonstrates their abilities in the areas of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and ceramics, as well as visual communication design, installation, and new media. This exhibition will be on view until May 18.
The Moss Arts Center’s galleries are regularly open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. The galleries and all related events are free and open to the public.

Parking is available in the North End Parking Garage on Turner Street. Virginia Tech faculty and staff possessing a valid Virginia Tech parking permit can enter and exit the garage free of charge. Limited street parking is also available. Parking on Alumni Mall is free on weekdays after 5 p.m. and on weekends.
