Human Resources invests in new recruiting and onboarding technology
The Division of Human Resources will launch a new recruitment and onboarding system to enhance applicants’ experience, streamline the hiring process, and simplify new employees’ onboarding.
Work has begun on the new system following an initial workshop in February. Human resources and an extensive group of campus partners will work with the vendor, PageUp People, to build Virginia Tech’s new system.
Anticipated benefits include an improved experience for job candidates when searching and applying for positions, including adaptive design so candidates can apply for university jobs from any device; integration with the university’s people system of record, Banner; and online automation of some paper processes, such as creating and sending electronic offer letters through the new system. Once an employee is hired, the onboarding portal will help bring new employees into their role more efficiently.
The new recruiting and onboarding system is expected to be ready during summer 2019. Training will be provided to users prior to the new system launching.

The new system, along with the engagement of our partners across campus to review and refine our recruiting and hiring processes, will be a tremendous step forward.”
After a thorough review process that included representatives from the Provost’s Office, Student Affairs, Advancement, College of Veterinary Medicine, Research, and Office for Equity and Accessibility, PageUp was selected based on the best-in-class solutions it provides with its 15-plus years of experience in global higher education; use of the latest technology; and integration capabilities with systems, social media, and more.
“Work toward this new system has been a collaborative effort aimed at streamlining our processes and building efficiencies, while also improving the recruiting experience for applicants and new employees,” said Amy Hogan, assistant provost for leadership initiatives. “The system will reduce administrative burden across the university, while also giving us more robust recruiting, reporting, and search committee functionality. We are pleased to be partnering with human resources and other partners throughout the university on this project, which will be a great step toward more proactive and strategic recruiting and onboarding for faculty and staff in the near future.”
